Students need help to understand the meaning of questions in their homework and what is expected of them. I help students pass the WIDA test of English skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. I explain English words, idioms, and phrases they find in their reading books and on the ACT/SAT exams. I also assist students with writing and editing their essays overall. We use online 1:1 tutoring to go over what they are learning in math, reading, science, history, and study skills. Test preparation for WIDA, PSAT, SAT, ACT is also available.
I've just noticed that the ACT website in the Test Dates section has an application for "accommodation for English Language Learners."

I help parents keep track of how their child is doing in school, what areas they need help with, and give them ideas on what would be useful at home. I contact teachers and accompany parents to parent-teacher conferences, so everyone understands what the teacher is telling them.
I also offer editing for emails, letters, resumes, and cover letters, to help parents' written American English to have the highest level of fluency.

I lead the ESL book discussion group for the Novi, Michigan library in 2022, 2023, 2024. We have completed the the 4 books pictured above and look forward to starting a new book in January and another in March.
At our meetings online, or in person, we began with vocabulary and phrases that needed explanation. We shared our thoughts on the plot clues each week.
Members of this lively group are very good detectives as we make sense of the clues and threads between the characters, ultimately looking for the culprit in the mysteries.
Novi library continues to offer this ESL book club on Mondays and Wednesdays, and we will begin a new session soon.
